Cancer currently represents one of the main causes of death worldwide. Conventional treatments include surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. In order to increase patient survival and improve their quality of life, it is very important to identify alternatives to classic anti-tumor therapies. Natural compounds and their metabolites represent an interesting therapeutic option, alone or in combination with available antineoplastic agents , thanks to their accessibility, applicability and reduced toxicity. In our laboratory, we
evaluate different compounds of natural origin, which are obtained by extraction from different sources, such as flowers, leaves and lichens. Our experience and the collaborations created over the years, allow us to identify, isolate and evaluate in vitro many effective molecules in a large panel of different cancer cells, including orphan tumors.
